As solopreneurs, we know that every venture starts with a spark of an idea, a vision of how we can make a difference. Today, I want to share a personal story highlighting the importance of validating our ideas before diving in headfirst.

As a physics tutor, I’ve always been passionate about helping students understand complex concepts.

Recently, I thought about creating a comprehensive program to assist students preparing for the New York State Regents Exams. I envisioned a resource that would provide rigorous practice and boost their confidence ahead of these crucial tests.

However, one question kept nagging: "Is it really needed?"

Instead of rushing into development, I decided to validate my idea first. I started with some basic market research.

I posted on Reddit, seeking opinions and interest from students and parents. Hours passed with no comments or engagement. It was a red flag, but I needed more data.

Then, I stumbled upon a news video discussing the possibility of the Regents Exams becoming optional or even being excluded entirely. This was a game-changer. The potential market for my program was at risk of disappearing before it even began.

In the end, I realized that my project was not viable. And that was a great outcome! By validating my idea early on, I saved valuable time, money, and effort that would have been wasted on a venture with little demand.

This experience reinforced a crucial lesson: Always validate your ideas before investing in them.

Solopreneurs, your time and resources are precious. Before diving into your next big project, step back and ask, "Is it really needed?"

Do the research, test the waters, and ensure there’s a genuine demand for what you’re offering. It can make all the difference between a successful launch and a costly misstep.
